My husband’s favorite type of hunting is duck hunting. Our little Brittany Spaniel dog has just gotten the hang of open water retrieving this year, so this duck season was really an exciting time for the whole family. The hunts are SO cold, but I will go to watch them and sketch all the little special moments involved in those mornings. He always talks about how his favorite part of duck hunting is to watch the birds circle in. The boat becomes so quiet but the excitement of the potential moment is all around. When the birds start to, as Taylor calls is, “look like a kid carrying a pumpkin” that’s when you know it is time. This painting is that perfect moment.
